Help My Parents Catch Up With their Mortgage

Hi, I am the daughter of two amazing parents that have dedicated their lives to serving others. My parents came to this country with faith and a prayer. After 3 years in this country, they were able to purchase a home. They faced many rejected and closed doors along the way with my siblings and I. They opened their home to widows, orphans, immigrants, and troubled children whose single parents needed help. For as long as I can remember my parents have always opened up their doors to those in need and now they are in need.

My dad had been working for the last 29+ years as a cook to provide for our family and keep this roof over our family's head. This was a very high-stress job and he would work 10 hours 5-6 days a week, catching buses back and forth. He was overwhelmed, to say the least. The mortgage payment got too high ($2,500) and he went to get help but was denied for a loan modification and a reverse mortgage. He had to default on the loan during the loan modification process but he was still denied. My father tried to save the money he wasn’t paying towards the mortgage but between raising a family and extended family, mountains of debt, and deaths in our family back to back in 2019, there was no way to save for my parents.

At the end of 2019, my dad suffered 3 hemorrhagic strokes and had to stop working. Right now, my dad is disabled and no longer can work so my mom is taking care of him and my siblings and I are helping with the finances and bills as best as we know how but it isn’t enough.

We decided to file chapter 13 bankruptcy to save the house after exhausting all options but it requires us to enter into a cure & maintain plan. Through this plan, my parents will have to pay $4800 each month. This amount is to pay what's owed on the house (a cure) and (maintain) the monthly mortgage payment.
