Help My Nieces Get Their Mom Back.

Hello, my name is Cayman, and the mother of my three beautiful nieces is in trouble. She went on a work trip and caught a life-changing virus. In a matter of days, she went from being the healthiest person I know to being unable to move 90% of her body and experiencing non-stop unbearable pain. Help me help her.

Full Story: My niece‘s mother, Tiffany was on the plane to come back home after a work trip when she started to feel off. Her coworkers were beyond worried for her. She was immediately escorted to the ER upon landing. Upon checking into the hospital, she was experiencing a level 10/10 pain. The doctors ran multiple tests, including MRIs, x-rays, and spinal taps. Despite all the tests done and all the medication given, the doctors had no answer as to what was wrong with her and she was still in 10/10 unbearable pain.

After the last spinal tap was conducted, the doctors came up with a diagnosis. She had GBS (guillain barre syndrome) They began giving her blood transfusions as a treatment method. She said that it was not working at all and now she could not move anything from her mouth to her toes. At this point, we were grasping for any little bit of good news.

Eventually, she was able to move her hands and her arms. We are very grateful for that however she was still experiencing 10/10 pain. I can’t imagine how anybody can endure that much pain for that long. My heart ached for her.

Shortly after getting a bit of good news, we received a whole lot of bad news. The right side of her face was now paralyzed. She could not eat on her own and was having trouble swallowing. She was rushed to the ICU as the GBS had started to compromise her diaphragm, making it incredibly hard for her to breathe. The doctors wanted to make sure she was in the ICU so that they could incubate her if needed.

Thank God and our prayer warriors out there, she has not had to be incubated. Thank God, the doctors found a pain medication that is giving her a little bit of relief. For 50% of every day her pain is bearable and for 50% of her day she is still in pain, as they can’t give her too much meds.

Things are starting to look up. The doctors say they have things under control enough that she can be moved to a rehab facility. This is welcome progress however she still has a long road ahead as people take years to recover from this virus.

She says that the rehab is just like the movies –where she is in excruciating pain every step that they try to get her to take. She says this is the hardest thing she’s ever had to do in her life – and she is a tough cookie. (MMA FIGHTER TOUGH) it took her 20+ minutes to brush her teeth.

How you can help: While she is working her hardest to get better, you can help by donating to cover the bills her insurance won’t. She is a hard-working, single mother and takes care of her family well. She is not superwoman though and she needs us to help her where our country’s health insurance falls short.

She could also use a temporary loving home for their family dog. She is not the most friendly to people outside the immediate family, so we need someone who is very good with animals.

Funds Usage: Funds will be used to pay the parts of the ICU bills that are not covered by Tiffany’s insurance. Additional funds may be needed in the future to help pay for rehab so that she can teach her body to do the basic things again and eventually get back to normal.
