This morning, my 18-year-old niece( Olivia Bashwiner) , her father and stepmother experienced a devastating house fire in Lindenhurst,NY . A fire that began in their garage spread extremely quickly, destroying both of their cars and causing damage to their home.

We are incredibly grateful that a neighbor noticed the fire early and banged on their doors, waking them up and allowing them to escape safely. It’s hard to even process what could have happened if he hadn’t seen it in time.

While everyone made it out safely, my niece lost most of her personal belongings, and her parents are now trying to sort through what—if anything—can be salvaged. Both vehicles were destroyed in the fire.

My niece graduated from high school this past June and recently secured new employment. Unfortunately, her car was lost in the fire, and she will need assistance to purchase reliable transportation so she can get to work. Her parents are facing the same challenge while also dealing with extensive damage to their home.

We know this is a difficult time of year for many, but any help you can offer—whether financial support or sharing this message—would mean so much as they work to rebuild and replace essential items.
