Help Our Nephew Recover from a Life-Threatening Brain Injury

Donation protected
We are writing this message with a heavy heart. On 30th April 2025, our dear nephew Herson Magbitang, a loving husband and father of two - with a third child on the way in June - was involved in a devastating motorbike accident in the Philippines.

According to the police, our nephew was on the right of way, driving safely on his motorcycle when another motorcycle carrying a young driver and a passenger struck him. The impact caused him to hit his head violently—and now, he is in the ICU, fighting for his life.

He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, with bleeding in multiple areas of his brain: an acute subdural hematoma, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. His condition was critical, and to save his life, he underwent an emergency decompressive craniectomy - a major brain surgery that removed part of his skull to relieve swelling and give his brain a chance to heal.

He remains unconscious in the intensive care unit (ICU), being monitored closely around the clock.

This tragedy struck just as he was preparing to welcome his third child into the world in June. And what makes this even more emotional is that his birthday is coming up on May 13, while others may celebrate with candles and gifts, all we wish for is that he wakes up, recovers, and gets the chance to hold his children again and meet his newborn baby.

We are starting this GoFundMe to help cover:
• ICU and hospital expenses
• Doctor’s fees for his life-saving brain surgery
• Ongoing brain scans, medications, and treatments
• Future neuro-rehabilitation
• Daily needs and support for his wife and children during this crisis
The government in Philippines does not help and these costs are crippling, more than what we would pay in Australia

Our nephew is young, strong, caring, and full of love for his family. We believe in his will to survive but recovery from a brain injury like this takes time, patience, and financial support.

If you can help by donating, sharing, or offering prayers, we would be deeply grateful. Every small act of kindness brings hope and strength to our family.

Thank you for standing with us during this most difficult time.

With heartfelt thanks,
Rachel Ann, Daniel, Herson and Family
