Help my Mum who lost her Van in the floods

Hi my name is Jess and I’m fundraising for my amazing Mum (Sue Michaels) who last night watched her beloved van become inundated with flood waters in Fingal.

I know it’s a tough time for everyone right now and some people have lost everything with these floods, but this van is EVERYTHING to my mum.

Unfortunately the evacuation notice came waaaay too late and by the time Mum tried to move her van the flood waters were already over the road and she was stuck.

To put things into perspective my mum currently rents a room in a share house in Fingal. Rental prices far exceed the amount she makes as a mental health nurse at Currumbin Clinic to live alone. I hate that my mum has to live in a share house at 64 years old!!! She deserves so much more than this and this camperVan gave her a sense of freedom and privacy when she needed it. She bought this van with her minimal superannuation that she was able to access due to Covid, certainly not leaving much for her to retire with. Homelessness in women over 55 is the fastest growing cohort in Australia and I can totally understand why.

My mum is a battler. She raised my brother and I completely alone without financial child support from my father or much help from anyone. She always provided us with more than we could ask for and gave us an amazing life and I’d so love to see my mum not have to worry about her financial and living situation. Unfortunately losing her van (which is her only mode of transport to get to work etc) has made matters so much worse for her right now.

The act of asking for help and sharing these details about our family is a difficult practice but my mum so deserves some help. She devotes a huge part of her life to helping those who are struggling with mental health and drug abuse issues which can be very taxing on her emotionally and physically. If you can offer some financial support so she can fix or replace her van I know it will lighten her load and it would mean so much to me and my mum!
