If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting my mum, you’d know that she is one of the coolest people of all time. She’s the UK’s very own ‘forever young music fan who is in love with everything’!
Her love for music that she has shared has been felt across the national gigging scene. This year alone she has gone to over 135 gigs, and over 1000 in the last 10 years! Her passion project, ‘Ask the Drummer’ , is a podcast that has featured over 200 drummers – all episodes produced without any revenue or funding, it was built purely from her love, time and passion.
As her daughter, I've felt her endless love and selflessness my whole life. It's reached my friends, and even their families.
This month, we received the news that she has been diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer that has spread to her liver. Her only option now is to undergo chemotherapy treatment at The Christie in Manchester.
People like my mum are rare to come across. She gives and gives and gives her love, admiration and support without asking ANYTHING in return. She has no materialistic desires, her happiness comes purely from music, family and loving life.
When I suggested to her that we should start a GoFundMe to support her during this time, she was absolutely NOT having it. The idea of having people donate their money to her made her feel guilty – that she wasn’t deserving of it. However, I’m sure if you’ve had even the smallest interaction with her, you’d know that if there’s anyone on this Earth that deserves it, it is her.
As many of you may know, it is just me, my mum and my dad. Whilst we wish we could financially support my mum on our own, it’s an unrealistic expectation to be able to give her everything we want to give her during this difficult time.
Our wish is to give her:
- The ability to continue to support her favourite artists by going to gigs for however long her battle takes
- A trip to the Philippines to see her family
- Financial peace of mind for the difficult time ahead
This fund would also support our family with general expenses such as travel to and from the hospital, any unaccounted-for, surprise expenses and covering for any loss of income that comes with my mum undergoing this treatment.
Whatever you can give, whether it’s a donation, a share of the page, or just keeping my mum and our family in your thoughts and prayers, we will be so so grateful.
