Hi, my name is Jana. My mother, Michell was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a progressive lung disease, and has been unable to continue her work at General Motors (GM) since August 2023 due to her declining health condition. She is connected to oxygen and is struggling to pay her bills while waiting for disability benefits to be approved. She has currently been waiting 7 months and it looks to be even longer. The timing is uncertain.

IPF is a life-threatening condition that affects the lungs, causing scarring and making it difficult for my mother to breathe. This disease has no known cause and there is currently no cure. My siblings and I have been doing our best to help our mother during this difficult time, but we are unable to cover all her expenses. Recently, her home went through renovations on the roofing and walls due to mold and rot that would further harm her health. These renovations were expensive but necessary to keep her safe and healthy, but they have added to the financial burden.

My mother is a strong and independent woman, but this disease has taken a toll on her both physically and financially. She is deeply saddened that she is no longer able to work. She has always been there for me and my siblings, and now it's our turn to be there for her.

We are setting up this fundraiser to help my mother pay for her living expenses while she waits for her disability benefits to be approved. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in her life and help her stay in her home.
