Help My Mother Overcome Financial Strain, in a time of Mourn

I'm reaching out today to ask for help. My mother just recently lost her husband a few weeks ago. He was battling a medical issue for years, but he suddenly declined so quickly no one saw it coming until only a month or so before his passing.

They were on a fixed income of his social security and small retirement pension. When he passed, she did the right things by reporting to all the proper people. Long story short, they have informed her it will be months before she can receive her survivor benefits, and she has nothing until then. Please help me get her through this tough time of grief and mourning until she can get her benefits and/or a job. She is trying so hard to keep her head above water, and this is so hard on her in this time of great sadness for the loss of the love of her life.
