Good afternoon everyone,
My mom is currently in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico being treated for cancer.
Starting in October, my mother had been put into the hospital due to a pain she had been dealing with in her stomach for a few weeks. The doctors were able to control it for a bit but detected something else which was some sort of cancer, but they didn’t know which one. The assigned oncologist then recommended that my mother be seen somewhere else; therefore, my family and I took her to San Antonio with an oncologist that was recommended to us by a nurse at LMC.
We finally took off to San Antonio in December since that was the only time the doctor had openings to accept my mother for checkups. However, by the time we arrived, we immediately had to bring her to the San Antonio Methodist hospital due to her pain getting worse. We spent about 2 months in San Antonio from one hospital to another. To make matters worse, my mother’s insurance wasn’t even accepted and wouldn’t be in other places. We had people telling us to take my mother to Houston so my older sister had tried contacting them, but apparently, we didn’t qualify for any programs they could assist my mother in.
Finally this month in February, we had to make yet another hard decision and take our mother to Mexico for more tests to be done on her and hopefully for a solution to be found.
As a student who lives out of Laredo, it’s been hard financially, but I always had my mother to help me no matter what. I felt guilty every time she handed me money, but she would tell me constantly “no te preoccupies mija valdrá la pena cuando te vea graduarte como maestra.”
Today, I am asking you all if you could help me and my family out financially to keep my mother in the hospital for further treatment. She’s my only mother and has been the best independent women role model my sisters and I had ever looked up to. She’s a kind woman and a loving mother who would do anything to see her daughters succeed, but right now we want to see her get through whatever sickness she’s dealing with. Even though it’s frustrating not knowing what type of cancer she had right now, what level she’s in, and that she’s not taking any kind of treatment for it. We are still holding onto hope and faith that as time goes by my mother will be back to her normal healthy self again. That she will be able to see my sisters keep growing as strong women, see me graduate from university, and see her grandkids grow alongside her husband.
At this point, the family Gallegos is asking for the community’s help in bringing my mother back to health again. Thank you all for your precious time and for listening to us.
