Dear everyone,
My name is David and I am reaching out to ask for your support for my brave and strong mother, Jenny, fight terminal cancer till the finish line.
Jenny Sutio is a beloved mother, wife and friend.
She has been the rock for our family, especially as a mother of two-one of whom has down syndrome.
She is the kind of person who makes sure everyone else is okay before even thinking of herself, and now it's our turn to support her with the same care and love she shows everyone else.
Background:
Jenny was diagnosed with an ovarian cancer in 2021.
She went through hysterectomy and 6 rounds of chemotherapy to get rid of the cancer. Unfortunately, we were told that this form of cancer (clear cell) may not be able to be completely removed and may return.
Last year, we found out that the cancer has found its way to the liver and it has slowly been making her condition worse to a critical point in the last month.
Jenny lives in Indonesia and has been receiving treatment and chemotherapy via BPJS (the Indonesian public healthcare system) since the beginning of the diagnosis.
Unfortunately, the public healthcare system is unable to provide the level of care she desperately needs and time is of the essence.
We have since consulted with private doctors and she has now been admitted to a private hospital in Jakarta for the last 2 weeks. The doctors were able to provide further insight into the situation and a few treatments and procedures have been done to stabilise her condition. She was extremely swollen, struggle to breath and move - her swelling has significantly gone down, she is able to breath normally and has slowly regained her mobility.
The doctors have suggested that Jenny undergone the TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization) treatment which is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat liver cancer. It combines chemotherapy with embolization, where a catheter is used to deliver chemotherapy drugs directly to the tumor and block blood flow to the tumor, thereby reducing its blood supply and growth. We have been informed that she will need at least 3-4, and up to 6 rounds to finish and find out if the treatment is effective. The treatment will need to be done once every 3-4 weeks.
Here is how your donation will be used:
- $30.000 AUD - TACE treatments - 1 TACE treatment cost approximately IDR 63.000.000 (equivalent to around $6.000 AUD).
- $15.000 AUD - Hospital admissions, medications and tests fees - she will need to stay at the hospital for up to 1 week each time which will include post treatment medications and testing (such as CT scan).
- $5.000 AUD - Daily costs, transportation and home care. My father had to stop working to look after my mother, leaving the family with no income.
FAQ:
-Why don't you go through BPJS (Indonesian public healthcare system)?
Jenny has received treatments via the BPJS system for years. However, the care and treatment that she received have not been adequate, and it seems like they have fully given up on her.
She received TACE treatment via the public healthcare system last year, however, after the first round she was told that the treatment was not effective and that they won't be covering the funding for further treatments. We have consulted other doctors since who told us that multiple rounds of TACE are needed to find out the efficacy of the treatment and 1 round is simply not enough.
When her condition got worse last month, Jenny was rushed to the public hospital. However, she was told to go home after a few days despite her condition not getting better, nor was there treatment plan provided. They cited that her potassium level has gone back to normal and she can go back for a follow-up consultation in a week. She was still extremely swollen, unable to sit up and walk - we had to take her home in an ambulance.
We feel like time is critical and had to act fast, which means going the private route. We are happy to have made the decision as she is now in a much better condition, stabilised and receiving further treatments to ensure that she can be as comfortable as she can be and slow down the cancer growth.
My mother is a fighter, but we need your support to give her a chance at life. Any contribution, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your compassion.
Warm regards,
David
