My mother has faced so many challenges this past year. After losing her husband, she was left without a home and, due to her disability, needed a safe and affordable place to live. I did everything I could to help her, and together we found a small one-bedroom apartment. It wasn’t easy, but it gave her a sense of stability and comfort during a difficult time.

Now, she finally has the chance to move into a lower-income elderly apartment, which would be a huge relief for both of us. Unfortunately, her current facility won’t let us break the lease early, so we’re being forced to pay for the last two months of rent—even though she won’t be living there. I co-signed the lease with her, so if we can’t pay, it will hurt both our credit and make it even harder for us to move forward. The state only gives her a small amount each month to live on, and I’m helping as much as I can, but it’s just not enough to cover this unexpected expense.
