Today, I, Ajay Yadav come to you with open arms and a heartfelt request for your support as my mother faces the daunting battle against multiple myeloma. About my mother:

My mother has always been a selfless being. She always cared for others, been a friend to all, and a source of inspiration for many including myself. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit have touched many lives in countless ways. Now, as she confronts the challenges of multiple myeloma, we want to ensure that she knows she is not alone in this difficult journey of her fight against cancer.

The journey to diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma in her started with complain of severe back pain and immobility just over a month ago. Upon going to hospitals, doctors would give pain medication and call it a day saying it will be ok. Her condition was getting worse and she was completely unable to move due to unbearable back/spine pain. She was then admitted to B&B hospital, Lalitpur, Nepal. Doctors were not able to figure out what was wrong with her and hundreds of tests were being done simultaneously.

Her condition was getting worse. She had completely stopped eating and drinking. Everything was through Intravenous. Her oxygen level was alarming, haemoglobin was super low. Everyone was giving up on her except for my brother, Saroj Yadav. From the time being sick till present, 24/7 he ran around to take care of our mother. He has some knowledge of pharmacy and medicine, and knew a doctor in Nepal Cancer Hospital. Upon going through all the results with the doctor and more tests (stem cell/bone marrow biopsy), patient’s symptoms and condition were all falling in line and connecting dots to Multiple Myeloma. Soon enough, we shifted her to Nepal Cancer Hospital and treatment started right away. With the right treatment and care , my mother started having drastic change from almost a dead person to be able to speak and eat. Yet, a long way to treatment.

Update: Up until now my mother has gone through 3 chemotherapy sessions.

The Battle against Multiple Myeloma:

Multiple Myeloma is a type of blood cancer in which plasma cells in bone marrow becomes cancerous and multiplies abnormally. It can damage the bones, immune system, kidneys, and red blood cell count. Multiple myeloma has thrown my mother into an intense battle, affecting her health and disrupting her everyday life. The disease brings forth unbearable pain, immobility, overwhelming fatigue, and relentless hardships to her. However, her resilience shines brightly as she undergoes rigorous treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and other medical interventions (Stem cell transplant), all in her courageous fight against this formidable Multiple Myeloma.

The Cost of Treatment:

As we focus on her treatment and healing, the financial strain of multiple myeloma treatment has begun to weigh heavily on her and myself as I am the sole provider for the family. The staggering costs of medical procedures, hospital stays, medications, and ongoing consultations have become an additional burden during an already challenging time. Doctors estimate the costs to be around $45K-$50K due to severity of her condition and aggressiveness of the cancer. Stem cell transplant by itself will cost around $25K-$40K in India. I believe that financial worries should not hinder my mother’s path to recovery. I am doing everything to my ability and in addition that is why I turn to you for your support during this time of difficulty.
