Help My Mother (72) Get Resettled Before Eviction

Donation protected
My lovely 72-year-old mother is being abruptly pushed out of her long-time apartment by some awful real estate bros who acquired her building in order to flip it. They’ve done this in lower income communities all over Connecticut & apparently now they’re moving on to Massachusetts.

She lives on a fixed income and was totally unprepared for such a sudden, enormous challenge. My father passed in the first year of the pandemic, and she's endured so much in losing him after 49 years together. Because of the lock-down, we weren’t able to be in the hospital with him while he slowly died over six weeks. It was all very chaotic & traumatic. Now she lives alone in their apartment with two beloved kitties, and in spite of her experience, she manages to stay upbeat and content. I'm so proud of her and thankful for how well she's been able to manage her mental health & her limited income, and it's incredibly upsetting to watch her be stressed and frightened by this current situation.

My partner and I, along with some siblings, have offered as much help as we're able to, and we're working to quickly find her housing in our city before she’s officially evicted. We're going to offer support to her indefinitely with monthly expenses, and ultimately we’re trying to use this as an opportunity for her to escape the MAGA energy in her town and come live in Northampton.

I’m trying to be optimistic & confident that we can make it work, but securing just a little more money would make such a huge difference.

All we’re really hoping for is that after all the stress, disruption, and fear of scrambling to find an apartment, moving, and acclimating to a new city for the first time in her life, that she might have a small cushion of money (ideally one month's rent & expenses) so that she can have a little peace of mind in her fresh start. Anything you can help with is greatly appreciated ❤️ Thank you ❤️
