My mom is the best person I know. She’s worked hard her whole life, starting at the age of 12, and has always put others before herself. After years of dedicated service with the Postal Service, she had to retire early due to illness and now lives on a fixed income. A couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has also been managing Fibromyalgia, making the past five years especially challenging for her.
In February, my mom suffered a fall and broke her hip. While insurance covered a short stay in a physical rehabilitation facility, the out-of-pocket cost after that was significant. With a large hospital bill, we tried to continue her physical therapy at home to help her heal. Unfortunately, during this time, she fell again and broke her other hip, leading to another hospital stay. Insurance won’t pay for another rehabilitation facility stay until 60 days have passed since her current hospital stay. The best place for her to continue physical therapy right now is in a rehabilitation facility, but the out-of-pocket cost to get her through this period is substantial. There will also be another significant hospital bill from her current stay.
My mom has brought so much joy and love to so many people throughout her life. She was a single mom who raised me while working harder than anyone I know. She is incredibly independent and has always taken care of everything herself, so asking for help is not easy for her—or for me. But right now, we need to reach out for support. Anything you can give will be received with so much gratitude and appreciation—even if all you can offer are your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping give my mom the best chance at recovery.
