My mom, or Sukey as many know her, has always been the heart of my family. She supported three kids on her own as a house cleaner for almost 20 years. She loves dancing, rehabilitating animals to be sent back out into the wild, and spending time with her grandchildren. Sukey is also suffering from advanced tooth decay which makes daily life a struggle. Every dentist she's seen has come to the same conclusion: she needs to have all of her teeth extracted. As many seniors on Medicare know, insurance will only cover a few teeth at a time so she would have to wait months to do the rest, leaving her to deal with chronic infections, antibiotics, and constant pain the whole time. The worst part though, comes after her teeth are extracted. The dentures provided by Medicare would make it impossible for her to enjoy her favorite foods, would be uncomfortable, result in rapid bone degeneration, and would only be approved after 9 months. That's 9 whole months without any teeth at all.
The cost of the dental care she needs is overwhelming, and my siblings and I simply don’t have the resources to cover it. We are asking for any help in providing dental implants and getting her teeth extracted to alleviate her suffering. The dental implants won’t be the same as having real teeth or costly veneers, but they will allow her to continue eating the foods she loves and prevent bone decay in her jaw. These are essential for all people in preserving not only their quality of life, but their dignity, throughout the golden years.
Any amount helps, and would go a long way in helping us give back to a woman who never demanded anything in return for all she’s done and does. To anyone who has found it in their heart to donate, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making a real difference.
