Help My Mom Save Her Home from Predators
Donation protected
My mom has lived in her home since 1997. It was the first home she and my dad ever "owned." Their children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren have celebrated Christmas there every since.
Last year she fell behind on her mortgage and was no longer allowed to pay what she had as the balance continued to grow. In addition, her health has been declining and she has had many hospital stays. In an attempt to prevent her foreclosure, she attempted to receive an reverse mortgage. AFter months of trying she was told it wasn't possible, however, a miracle occurred and the broker called back trying one more time. This time everything was set. She was ready to schedule closing when a lien was put on her home.
On January 7, in an attempt to save her home, my mom ended up on the phone with a predator. He was kind, he told my mom that he was going to help her manage her mortgage and make sure she still had money to live on. He asked her to sign some documents online for more information and my mom, not being able to see clearly due to a cataract in both eyes, hit the automatic docusign tabs.
It was a contract to sell her house. I immediately got the man's number called him back and he tried to convince me that he was a "helper." I sent a signed letter from her saying she wanted to cancel the contract. He said there was no canceling. I didn't talk to him again. I assumed all was well until the lien HIS company placed on my mom's home 5 days before her house is scheduled to be auctioned off.
This is stopping her ability to get the reverse mortgage. She cannot extend the date of the sale, we have called the mortgage company, their lawyers, and the judge. All that's left is to reinstate the loan for 22,000 and she will have her house back and we can fight this predator who is scamming the elderly out of their homes.
My mom wants to spend the rest of her life in that house. She lives on her monthly social security check and in no way can afford an apartment, so she will be a wanderer in between her two daughters homes while the third is still looking for her own home.
I don't like asking for help. The only thing I thought I would EVER ask for was help if God forbid, one of my children were sick. But I can't stand seeing my mom like this.
I understand that everyone is dealing with their own challenges right now. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
