Help My Mom Restore Her Vision with Cataract Surgery

Donation protected
Update 05/16/25

Mom had her one month follow up. She loves seeing all the colors now and the eye heard perfectly. The doctor decided the right eye surgery can wait until she loses more vision because the left eye is so good now.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped.

Update 04/17/25

Thank you to everyone who helped her ❤️

Mom had her left eye surgery on 04/10/25 and she goes for her one week follow up tomorrow.

Left eye was a huge success right off the bat she noticed all the new colors she could see, and could see almost perfectly. She did amazing on the letter chart the next day.

Out of pocket expenses so far

$30 for 2 eye drops
$91 for doctor consultation
$282 for left eye surgery center

Total
$403

She hasn’t received the other left eye surgery bills from the doctor or anesthesiology yet.

Her one month follow up is 05/016/25 on that day they will also schedule her right eye surgery.

She’ll need to pay the $282 for the surgery center that day.

I’m not sure if the doctor and anesthesiology from the left eye will need to be paid by then or not yet.

Help My Mom Restore Her Vision with Cataract Surgery

I'm reaching out for help because my mom needs cataract surgery on both eyes, and the upfront costs are more than she can afford. Over the last few years, she’s faced multiple health challenges, including heart and kidney issues, iron infusions, a blood transfusion, and several hospital stays. She already has medical bills she’s paying off, and now this necessary eye surgery is adding to the financial burden.

Why She Needs This Surgery
Cataracts can make it difficult to see clearly, making everyday activities like reading, driving, and even recognizing faces a struggle. Her doctor has recommended surgery for both eyes, starting with one eye, followed by the second a month later. This procedure will greatly improve her quality of life, independence, and overall health.

How Much It Costs
Even though she has good insurance, she is still responsible for 20% of the surgery costs upfront for each eye. These are the estimates made having a rough estimate from the surgery center, fairhealthconsumer.com, Medicare procedure price lookup (even though she has her own insurance and not Medicare):

- Consultation Fees (Estimated 20%): $100-$150

- Surgery Center Fees (Estimated 20%): $365 per eye, $730 total

- Doctor’s Fee (Estimated 20%): $300–$600 per eye, $600–$1,200 total

- Post-Surgery Eye Drops & Medications: $100–$600

- Total Estimated Out-of-Pocket Cost: $1,400–$2,500

Since GoFundMe takes a small percentage of donations, we’ve set a goal of $2,800 to cover the surgery for both eyes, medications, and any unexpected costs.

How You Can Help
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward paying for her surgery and helping her regain her vision. If the estimates are high and there is extra left, it will be used to pay down other healthcare bills she has or for copays. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean the world to us.

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support. We truly appreciate any help you can provide!
