On June 20th at 3:42pm, I got a call no daughter should get. “Come quick, mom has been struck by a car”. I was two hours away from the crash completely helpless and unable to act quickly. Lucky for my mom, my sister was with her and did all that was in her power to save her. She screamed so loudly, alerting everyone that something went terribly wrong. She ran back to the car and tried to lift the car with all her strength to get mom from under the car. With the help of good people, they managed to save my mom from being completely crushed under the car.
It’s been almost a week and the doctors’ confirmed that with the surgeries she’s undergoing and the rehab she will be taking, she will be able to eventually walk again in about a year or two. While my mom’s life has been spared, her life is now forever changed. She will never be the same person from before the crash. All because she sat on a bench waiting for a bus and because a driver just didn’t care.
We have filed a lawsuit against the driver who has been charged with careless driving but we all know how long lawsuits take. I’m concerned with what will happen to my mother when she gets out of the hospital and rehab to go back to the place of the accident which happens to be right outside her home. Her home is not wheelchair friendly which will make it difficult to maneuver. And most importantly, we don’t know what big of an impact PTSD will have on her every time she will look out the window or step outside her home to relive the moment that almost took her life. Thinking about it breaks my heart and I don’t want her to live through that.
This fund is to help my family move to a new location. It will help pay for two things:
1. Movers - to help pack and move
2. Pay the ridiculous rent difference of what they pays now vs. what they would pay if they move to a new apartment for at least a year (about $450-$500/month)
