Hi everyone,
I’m starting this GoFundMe to help my incredible mom, who has been displaced due to the Eaton Canyon fire. While her home wasn’t completely destroyed, it has suffered severe smoke damage, making it unlivable at the moment. She will need to replace her furniture and belongings, and her house requires extensive smoke treatment. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help her rebuild.
A little about my mom:
Born and raised in Altadena, CA, my mom comes from a family that has long-standing ties to this community. Her parents were one of the first Black families to purchase commercial property on Mariposa Street in the 1980s. They eventually sold the block to another Black couple, who continue to own it today.
My mom is the proud mother of two daughters—Skye (me) and Savannah, who is currently in college, fully supported by my mom without financial aid. She is known throughout Pasadena and Altadena as a generous, big-hearted woman who goes out of her way to help others in need.
Her work and dedication:
My mom is a hair stylist, and the co-founder and director of Borner’s Barber College in Pasadena. She has dedicated her life to the community, and unfortunately, 70% of her clients have lost their homes due to the fire and can no longer afford regular hair services. Even while facing her own struggles, she plans to continue offering her services free of charge to those who have been displaced.
Additionally, Bronner’s Barber College will remain open as a community hub, providing free hair care services and collecting donations of hair care products for those in need. However, her ability to earn a steady income will be significantly impacted during this time of recovery.
This GoFundMe aims to support my mom in replacing her belongings, treating her home for smoke damage, and helping her manage lost income as she continues to serve the community.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a huge difference in helping her rebuild and continue to support others. Thank you so much for your generosity and for taking the time to read and share her story.
With gratitude,
Skye
