Hey everyone, my name is Shawn.
On Tuesday, I got a call no one ever wants to receive—my mom had been in a serious accident. Her SUV flipped, and she was trapped inside. The gentleman that hit her was uninsured and gave a false insurance due to not having insurance. Unfortunately my parents only have liability insurance for there car due to the car being an older car.
What makes this even harder is how the morning started.
The night before, my niece Haisley was up sick, coughing through the night. My brother stayed up with her until around 2 AM, which caused him to get a late start the next morning.
Our mom is the kind of person who is always on time—like clockwork. She was on her way to watch her granddaughter, just like she does out of love all the time.
But she never made it.
After multiple unanswered calls, my brother knew something wasn’t right. He drove along her normal route and came up to an intersection near Lenoir-Rhyne University that was completely blocked off.
That’s when his heart dropped.
It was our mom’s SUV… flipped on its side… surrounded by firefighters and paramedics.
There’s no way to describe that feeling—not knowing if your mom is okay.
She has always been our rock. Anyone who knows her knows she’s one of the sweetest, most selfless people you’ll ever meet.
By the grace of God, she was awake and coherent when they got to her. EMS transported her to the hospital where she was treated. Thankfully, nothing was broken—but she’s badly bruised, cut up, and facing a painful recovery.
This accident was caused by another driver making a dangerous decision—turning left from the right lane and hitting her, causing her vehicle to flip.
She was simply on her way to take care of her granddaughter… and in a moment, everything changed.
We are incredibly thankful she’s still here, because the truth is—we’d be lost without her.
To the first responders and everyone who stopped to help her and comfort her before she was rescued—thank you. You gave our family peace in one of the scariest moments of our lives.
Right now, we’re focused on helping her recover physically, emotionally, and financially. Medical bills, recovery time, and the loss of her vehicle are all adding up quickly and the other driver was uninsured so insurance is unwilling to help.
If you can donate or even just share this, it would truly mean the world to our family.
And if you can’t, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
