On July 20th, during what was supposed to be my senior trip to California, our lives changed forever. My mom and I were walking back to our car after dinner in Oceanside when a semi-truck jumped the curb, hit my mom, and sped off.
She was rushed to the trauma center in La Jolla with serious injuries to her head, shoulder, hand, neck and back. That night, I was terrified I was going to lose my mom. Thankfully, she survived — but her recovery has been long, painful, and far from over. She’s still going through both physical therapy and PTSD counseling.
The police told us the truck was caught on camera running a stop sign just a mile away, and that the case would be passed on to investigators. They even sent us a picture. But months later, nothing has been done. Calls go unanswered, and we’ve had to fight for every piece of information — even paying and waiting three weeks just to get a copy of the police report.
We hired an accident attorney hoping for help, but instead, they are taking 33% of my mom’s auto policy claim — a claim she had already started herself just to help cover her medical bills. She was recently notified that her claim also has to reimburse her medical insurance first, but she still has bills that the medical did not cover. Her policy maxes out at $25,000, but her medical bills from that one night alone are over $135,000, not including the ongoing cost of therapy and treatment.
My mom is a single mother who has always done everything she can to take care of me and my sisters. She’s the kind of person who would give anything to help someone else, even if it meant she had to go without. Now, she’s the one who needs help — and I just want to give her a moment where she doesn’t have to worry about bills, phone calls, or how she’ll keep up with everything.
If you can, please donate or share this page to help my mom heal and get back on her feet. Every little bit helps, and we’re grateful beyond words for your kindness and support.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. ❤️
