Help my mom rebuild from the Marshall Fire
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kim Dugan and my mother Linda lost her home in the Marshall Fire. This winter has been especially hard; she was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer three days before Christmas and is scheduled to start chemotherapy on January 6th. The day of the Fire, she left in the early afternoon before the evacuation notice for an appointment; she had only her wallet and the clothes she was wearing, and never had a chance to go back to grab any valuables or sentimental items. She had been in her home in Louisville over 13 years and loved her neighborhood. She also loved gardening in her yard. She is a wonderful mother and grandmother to five grandchildren. I would love to be able to get her back into her home (either rebuilt or a new home/location) as soon as possible so that she can focus her attention on her health.
While she did have home insurance, the incredible rise in costs for housing materials and labor over the last two years means that she is under-insured and unable to rebuild her home as it was; because of her health issues, she will need to reconfigure her home for a main floor bedroom and bathroom, which will be an additional expense and not covered by insurance. I estimate she will need $150,000 to $200,000 more than what the insurance policy will cover to rebuild. If she can’t rebuild, she would need at least that much to be able to afford to buy a home in Boulder County. Ideally, she would love to stay in Louisville, but I don’t know if that’s possible given how many homes were lost.
I appreciate any and all help in getting my mom’s story out there, and for any donations to help her rebuild her life.
