Help My Mom Rebuild After a Wrongful Police Raid Left Her Home Destroyed.

My mom has always been a hardworking, responsible, and dedicated woman who has built her life through immense perseverance. Anyone who knows her personally can attest to her hardworking and relentless nature. She’s been a responsible, long-term renter who opened her home to tenants to help manage her living costs, taking every step to ensure it was done properly, from reference checks to verified employment.

But a little over a week ago, everything changed.

While my mom was at work, police unexpectedly raided her home in search of those tenants— two men she had properly vetted. The officers caused catastrophic property damage: breaking her entire backyard fence, destroying her beloved garden, shattering windows (including her private bedroom and garage), destroying bed frames, leaving shattered glass in all the carpets and curtains, and leaving her home in complete disarray. The raid left behind over $75,000 worth of damage to her home and property.

After the chaos, the police found nothing illegal and released the men after just two hours, leaving my mom to deal with the aftermath all alone. The damage far exceeded any reasonable use of force, and the officers’ behavior was condescending and dismissive. They blamed the entirety of the situation on her.

Since then, my mom has been unable to return to work. The stress, financial uncertainty, and endless administrative tasks have been overwhelming. While insurance will cover part of the repair costs, she must pay a deductible, and repairs are expected to take between two to six months— preventing her from renting her suite, which she relies on to pay her mortgage. With so much still unresolved, she doesn’t yet know when she’ll be able to return to work..

In addition to the financial hardship, this ordeal has taken a significant toll on her health. She is now facing a long road to recovery, both physically and emotionally.
