Help my mom move into a affordable home

Donation protected

My name Will Young and my mother is Cleo Young and we need your help. This is the most difficult crisis my mom and our family has ever had to face. Our mom has been residing in her home since November of 1984. 8 months later my dad passed away from cancer, he was the primary bread winner and my mom was a stay at home mom. This left mom being a single mom of a 12-year old boy. Money was very tight but paying $200 a month in rent was easy to manage. In 2013 her landlord became ill and one of his family members took over managing the property. Then in 2018 the landlord passed away and it was around this time we learned that the property had been purchased by someone in Los Angeles, California because the family member failed to pay the property taxes. This new landlord first order of business was to increase the rent, however his ownership and rent increase was short-lived because he sold the property to the current owners, River Tree Academy. The founding Executive Director from River Tree Academy came to the house and introduce himself. He was very friendly and he was very emphatic about letting us know that moms would never have to worry about future rent increases or leaving her home. He went on to add, that she could even live there rent free if need be because in his words…”she’s a respected elder in the community and we have to take care of our elders”. So, imagine our shock and disappointment when that turned out to not be true. In October of 2021 we were contacted by a new representative from River Tree Academy who wanted to meet to discuss the condition of the roof. While discussing the roof repair costs, she blind side us saying that it would be a waste of money to make repairs since they plan on demolishing the house in a year to make room for the Academy’s parking lot. On a phone call, this representative stated she wasn’t privy to the verbal promise that the former Director had made to us but would take it to the Board of Directors in hopes that this would possibly come back with a alternative outcome. A couple of weeks later she said the board decided to proceed with the demolition plans. My mom was devastated. 38 years' worth of memories is being reduced to a parking lot for a school the neighborhood hasn’t asked for or been made aware of until now. The stress of all of this is taking a toll on mom's mental health. She’s sad most days and cries alot. Couple that with the stress of trying to find affordable housing in her neighborhood on her fixed income, it’s practically near impossible. This is why we’re creating this GoFundMe to at least ease the financial stress of being able to move her to another home. My mom isn’t your typical 88-year-old and many who know her, will tell you. She’s very independent, healthy and sweet. Her longevity lies in the love, security and support that her neighborhood has given her for 38 years. She worries so much for all of us including my brother who is battling Parkinson’s Disease. If I could I would build her home and keep it moving but I can’t but I want to do what I can. So, I’m asking for any donations that God places upon your heart to give to help her to get in a new place before her expected move out date of 7/31/2022.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, your love and support is greatly appreciated and NEVER will be forgotten.
