Help my Mom in her final days
Hi. I'm Robin. A lot of you may know me as Rhone. My mother, Ellen Williams, and the rest of our family are in dire straits right now.
A lot of you are aware that my mother has been battling brain cancer for quite some time now and for most of that time, she was winning. She was only expected to live 5 years and she just hit 8 years since her diagnosis last month. October last year they said that her progress was going so well that she would only need an MRI annually instead of 4 times a year.
Then over Thanksgiving she had a seizure coupled with a kidney infection with no time to recover from either. The seizures started getting worse and she started having trouble with her memory. They gave her another MRI and it turns out there were two new, small lesions on her brain. They attempted chemo and radiation earlier this year, during which time I went back to North Carolina for almost 2 months to look after my disabled sister while she underwent these treatments and other relatives took care of Mom. It helped for a while but after treatment she quickly declined.
Mom is now unable to care for herself and the family that has been looking after her and my sister are unable to care for her any longer as they have injured themselves. Due to legal constraints, she cannot get Medicaid until she gets a divorce from her husband and Medicare will cover all costs for Hospice care except room and board, which is upwards of $8000/month.
Mom likely doesn't have long so we'd only likely need a few months worth of the costs at most, and that's being optimistic, and some extra to cover any incidental expenses or just in case she keeps on keeping on longer than we expected. This would also be potentially put towards funeral and legal expenses after she passes as well as finding a place for my sister to live, since she has Down's Syndrome and cannot take care of herself.
Thank you for your help.
