My mom is currently facing a serious and complex medical situation that we have been unable to fully address locally. Despite multiple hospitalizations, procedures, and ongoing care, her condition continues to worsen. She is requiring frequent blood transfusions as her hemoglobin continues to drop, and we are still trying to identify the source of the bleeding while also managing a severe infection. We are at a point where we urgently need to get her to a higher-level care facility. We have been told that she can be taken on there, but getting her there and staying near the hospital comes with significant costs. Between travel, lodging, medical expenses, and lost income from taking time off work to be with her, the financial burden is quickly becoming overwhelming.
But beyond all of this, I want people to understand who she is. When we were little, she was the mom who showed up for everything, Brownie troop leader, 4-H leader, coaching track, always giving her time and energy to make sure kids felt supported and encouraged. That’s just who she has always been. Now, my own kids know her as “Little Gramma.” She is a constant in their lives, loving, present, and always there with a smile, no matter how she’s feeling. And to me, she is so much more than my mom, she is one of my best friends. The person I call for everything. The person who has always been there for me, no matter what. Right now, I just want to be there for her the way she has always been there for all of us.
We are asking for help to cover travel for specialized medical care, lodging during her treatment, medical-related expenses not fully covered, and lost wages while I take time off to be with her. If you are able to help, thank you from the bottom of my heart. And if you can’t, sharing this means just as much to us.
