Hi, my name is Camille, and I’m organizing this fundraiser to help my mom, who is facing an overwhelming housing and financial crisis through no fault of her own. For over 12 years, my mom lived in the same rental home. During that time, she repeatedly reported mold and moisture problems to her landlord, but the issues were ignored. In order to make the home livable, she was often forced to clean mold herself, even though the underlying problems were never repaired. Over time, the conditions became unsafe, and she was ultimately forced to leave. She is now in court seeking accountability for the long-term neglect and unsafe living conditions she endured. After leaving her home of 12 years, my mom urgently needed a new place to live. She applied for a second rental and paid rent, deposits, and insurance, believing it would be safe and move-in ready. However, from the beginning, the process was stressful and unfair. She was pressured to sign the lease before being allowed to see the unit, and when she arrived slightly late, she was threatened that the unit would not be rented to her unless she signed immediately. Feeling cornered and desperate for housing, she signed without knowing what conditions she was agreeing to. The move-in date was then pushed back twice, forcing her to wait nearly a month. During this time, certain features were promised, including hardwood flooring, which was never provided. When we finally attempted to move in, the unit was immediately unsafe. There was visible water damage, mold, ventilation issues, filthy air vents, and an upstairs vent completely covered by carpet. Despite the visible damage, there was no record of prior water issues. We have photos and documentation of these conditions. Because the unit was unsafe, my mom could not move in at all and will likely need to pursue additional legal action to recover the money she paid. As if this weren’t enough, my mom has recently lost her job, her car no longer works, and she is currently living with family while trying to figure out her next steps. She is facing immediate and long-term expenses for safe housing, transportation, food, bills, storage, and legal costs, all while navigating multiple court cases at once. This fundraiser is meant to help her regain safety, stability, and dignity during an incredibly difficult time. Funds raised will go toward: Emergency and long-term housing Transportation and car repairs or alternatives Replacing belongings affected by mold or water Food, utilities, and basic necessities Storage and cleaning costs Legal and administrative expenses My mom has always worked hard and tried to handle things on her own. Asking for help is not easy, but this situation has become more than she can manage alone. Any amount truly helps, and if you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much.
