Help My Mom Fight Systemic Lupus and AIHA

I am reaching out to you all with a heavy heart. My mom, Heather Bennett, has been courageously fighting Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA), two serious autoimmune conditions that have drastically affected her health and our family’s well-being. Recently, I learned just how dire our situation is when my mom finally spoke up about the overwhelming challenges we are facing financially.

As a teenager, it’s been tough to come to terms with this reality. I’ve felt disappointed and scared, realizing that I need to step up and help in ways I never expected. My mom has always been the pillar of strength in our family. Growing up, it was just my sister and me with our mom, who faced every challenge of raising us as a single parent with incredible resilience and love. She was our everything—our provider, protector, and biggest supporter.

Now, our family includes my stepsister and our mom’s supportive husband. Despite the added responsibilities and her own health struggles, my mom remains the unwavering rock for all of us. Even through her pain, trauma, and stress, she continues to work to provide for us, showing an extraordinary level of dedication and selflessness. The hardest part was hearing the cold, hard truth: I might have to face the possibility of graduating without my mom by my side. The thought of losing her—the person who has done everything in her power to ensure I have the best in life—is overwhelming.
