On 11/11, my mom went to the ER after days of severe migraines and nausea. What we thought might be something minor turned into the most devastating news — she was admitted and doctors discovered melanoma spots on her brain. After more scans, we learned the cancer has also spread to her lungs and liver.

She was discharged on 11/15, and this week she begins an aggressive treatment plan including chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. Her doctors stressed that treatment needs to start immediately — waiting is not an option. They are optimistic that with the right treatments, she can beat this.

The hard part is that my mom currently does not have insurance. Her coverage won’t begin until January, so everything from scans to treatments is going to have to be paid out of pocket until then. These expenses add up extremely quickly, and we’re doing everything we can to keep her care moving without delay.
