Help My Mom Fight Leptomeningeal Carcinoma

Hi, my name is Bee Miller, and I’m fundraising for my mom, Ellen Brodie, who has been diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer affecting the lining of her brain and spinal cord.

Our world was turned upside down by this devastating diagnosis. Despite the challenges, my mom remains strong, hopeful, and determined to fight with everything she’s got. She has been recommended to undergo proton radiation therapy, a highly targeted form of treatment that offers the best chance of slowing the progression of her illness and giving her more quality time.

Unfortunately, her insurance provider, Aetna, has denied pre-authorization for the proton therapy, calling it “experimental” — even though her doctors have confirmed it’s the most appropriate and potentially life-extending option in her case. We are currently appealing the decision, but time is not on our side.

In the meantime, we are facing significant out-of-pocket medical expenses, in addition to travel and lodging costs for her treatment in Miami, Florida, which is far from home.

This is why I’m reaching out — humbly — to ask for your support.
