Help My Mom, Alta, Kick Cancer's Butt

Hi, my name is AJ Mahan, and I am starting this GoFundMe to help give back to my mom, who has given so much to so many in her life. Many of you know of my mom's breast cancer journey, which started over a year ago when she first found a tumor in her breast. She was off work for over six months dealing with surgery and treatment. Just as she went back to work this year, her tumor came back, much bigger than the first time. This time we knew she had to do something drastic to end this once and for all. She is now down in Mexico doing traditional and non-traditional treatment, including surgery. Initially, she was only supposed to be there for three weeks, but those three weeks have turned into almost seven weeks. Each week she is down there, her treatment adds up to at least $12,000, and she just recently found out that her family medical leave will not cover anything because she was off work for treatment so much this past year. The unexpected twists in her recovery are not only taking their toll mentally and physically, but also financially.

For those of you that know my mom, you know how much she gives to her family, her friends, her patients, to the 4H world, the pygmy goat world, to anything she gets involved in. Many people have asked how they can help in this challenging time in our family, and right now, helping give back to her is the biggest thing we can ask.

While she is down in Mexico getting her treatment, I am living with my Nana up in Canada. It's hard to be so far away from my mom, and I am looking forward to when this is over and we can be home together again. Thank you so much for your support and love.
