Help my Malawian friend Rita to access education

I am contacting you because I would like to do a little crowdfunding for a very special friend that Felix and I made in Malawi: Rita.

During our time volunteering in Malawi, we met a lot of amazing people and we shared great moments. However, when I look back, only a few people made a strong impression on me, taught me incredible lessons and connected to my heart. One of the most special friends I made was in Cape Maclear, Malawi.

Felix and I lived and volunteered in Middle Africa for six months and while being there, I became the hostel manager of an NGO. After a couple of weeks looking for a good receptionist, I met a smart, extrovert and happy girl: Rita Kaunda

Rita was at that time 21 years old and she was an orphan. She was looking for a job opportunity to be able to finish her degree and build a future, but also to look after her grandma. I asked Rita to write a motivation letter and CV and after interviewing many candidates, Rita was the best one.

I started to train Rita in bookkeeping, customer service, computer skills, etc. She was always a very fast learner and always motivated. After we left Malawi to continue travelling, Rita took my place as hostel manager. We were very proud of her and were happy to help one friend with her future!

 
Rita worked two years in this Malawian hostel, however she did not get a new contract, because the NGO had financial troubles. Now she has been unemployed for a couple of months. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with an average income per capita of around 30 dollars a month. Besides, 90% of children in Malawi do not get the chance to go to secondary school - and education opportunities are particularly limited for women.

This is for me a very strong motivation to find ways to help my friend. A few weeks ago Rita contacted me to see if I could help her with sponsoring with finishing her bachelor degree. Her dream is to graduate from university in social work and continue helping people in Malawi who need help. Just as she and her grandmother needed once.

 
This is the first time in my life that I feel that with a very small ‘push’ I can help a friend to make her dream come true and create a better future. Unfortunately, I cannot make this work alone and this is why I am reaching out to you.

I would like to ask you for a little contribution if you feel like supporting Rita to access education. She has already completed year two of University and needs to finish her last two years. However, she has no financial support and is not able to finish her degree.

 
With EUR 1.500 Rita can complete her 3rd year of education and live in Lilongwe.

With EUR 2.500 Rita can complete her 3rd & 4th year and graduate as a social worker and live in Lilongwe.
