Hello everyone,
Yoda- “hero, warrior, the one who knows”
Yoda is a 4-year-old Husky mix. She is energetic, resilient, intelligent, friendly, and a gentle, loving little girl. Yoda is deeply cherished by her family and is a beloved member of her household, community, and daycare. She loves to run, receive belly rubs, howl, play with her toys, attend daycare, go for walks, and snuggle with her brother, Shadow.
Last August, Yoda experienced a lung lobe torsion and underwent surgery to save her life. Unfortunately, after the surgery, Yoda developed chylothorax disease. This condition occurs when lymphatic fluid, known as chyle, accumulates in the pleural space, which is the area between the lung and the chest wall. Yoda had a second surgery to have a PleuralPort device placed so that her disease could be managed medically at home by her mom. Symptoms of chylothorax disease include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, rapid breathing, respiratory distress, and, in severe cases, death. When Yoda displays these symptoms, her mom has to drain her chest cavity. Despite dietary changes, medication, and ongoing medical management, Yoda’s condition has worsened, placing both an emotional and financial strain on her family.
Yoda has a strong will to live and continues to fight her disease every day. Yoda's best option for achieving a disease-free life is to undergo minimally invasive surgery—laparoscopy/thoracoscopy—at the Ontario Veterinary College Companion Animal Hospital, performed by Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh is the only surgeon in Canada who performs this procedure. Yoda's surgery is scheduled for September 4th, 2025. The cost of the surgery ranges from $6,000 to $12,000. Yoda and her mom will be taking a road trip from Alberta to Ontario at the end of August.
Yoda’s mom is asking for your help to save her little girl. Yoda and her mom would be grateful for any amount donated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this message and sending positive energy or prayers. Every bit of support brings Yoda one step closer to getting the surgery she needs to be free of disease and to breathe easier for the time she has left with her family.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, for your kindness, and for supporting Yoda and her family.
With love and gratitude,
Natalie, Yoda, and Shadow
