Hello! My name is Ciro Hernández, and I am a DLI kindergarten teacher in Salt Lake City School District, Utah. In my classroom, my students do not just learn Spanish—they explore the rich cultures behind the language.
This year, I want to give them a truly special experience. A cultural journey without leaving the classroom.
With your support, my kindergarteners will take a “cultural trip” to my home region: the Canary Islands, Spain. During our school sing-along festival, they will sing and dance traditional Canarian songs—and I want them to do it wearing authentic-style clothing that reflects the beauty and history of the islands.
To make this happen, I need help purchasing traditional outfits, accessories, and fabrics. These materials will allow my students to fully immerse themselves in the music, dance, and traditions of the Canary Islands.
Why This Matters?
Authentic cultural experiences help young children:
1. Build respect and appreciation for diversity.
2. Connect language learning with real-world traditions.
3. Develop pride in participating in something meaningful and beautiful.
4. Enjoy a hands-on, joyful learning moment they will remember for years.
Thank you for helping my students celebrate culture, language, and diversity in such a meaningful way. I can’t wait to share photos and videos from the festival as a way of showing our gratitude.
Thank you for your support!
— Ciro Hernández
