Hi everyone,
This is really hard for me to write, but our family is facing something incredibly heartbreaking right now.
My father-in-law in Hawaii was recently hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle and suffered a severe brain injury. Because of the extent of his injuries and his advance directive, he is now being placed on hospice Friday. We’ve been told we only have a very short time left with him.
He is my children’s grandpa, and he has been such an important part of their lives. Their dad, Robert, passed away when they were babies, so their grandpa has always been a special connection to their father and a strong male role model as they’ve grown up.
He has also been incredibly supportive to me over the years. After Robert passed away, he continued to be there for us and has always treated me like a daughter. His love and support have meant so much to our family.
Our biggest hope right now is to get to Hawaii as quickly as possible so the kids can say goodbye and spend some time with him before he passes.
He had to be life-flighted to a hospital on a different island for treatment, which means we won’t be able to stay at his home while we are there. Between the last-minute flights and needing a place to stay near the hospital, the travel costs have become overwhelming for us.
If you’re able to help with travel expenses, it would mean more than I can put into words. If not, sharing this would help our family so much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for keeping our family in your thoughts during such a difficult time.
