Robert’s Covid Recovery Journey

Hi my name is La’Nette and my husband Robert has been battling Covid since September 12,2021. Robert was diagnosed with double COVID pneumonia, Acute Hypoxic Respiratory Failure and immediately admitted into the hospital. He was placed on High Flow O2 because his lungs were failing due to COVID . His situation became even more serious and he was transferred to ICU on September 18th. Things did not look promising for my loving husband. He was at the max of oxygen support. 60 liters per minute.
The next step in treatment was pointing to intubation. My husband refused to be placed on a ventilator, which actually saved his life. My husband also suffers from severe anxiety disorder. Thankfully, through prayers, awesome Dr’s and staff at UT Southwestern he started to show some improvement after receiving 2 plasmapheresis as part of a Covid Study.

Robert was transferred to Long Term Acute Care ICU Hospital, (Dallas LifeCare) where he has made great improvement. He started requiring less oxygen support. He was also diagnosed with ARDS. Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. We are still not sure how this will affect his future due to the lung damage and scarring he has. He is doing Physical and Respiratory therapy daily.

The hope is to get him home for continued recovery and rehab. He will be on O2 and rehab for some time, but he is slowly putting the pieces back together. Everyday he is getting stronger. He is currently on 10-25 liters of oxygen depending on his needs. He is also suffering from long haul Covid post symptoms, such as fevers, severe migraine headaches and a respiratory cough daily. He is learning how to walk again. (He’s lost more than 60lbs). We are also teaching him how to do the basics such as brushing his teeth and combing his hair without his oxygen stats going down.

As you can imagine, there is physical, mental and financial toll on our family especially on Robert. We are asking for continued prayer and support as we have medical and living expenses to tackle. He has been unable to work through this all, and he will be unable to return for a while. (6 months to a year) I am hoping to return soon back to the medical work field, once he’s able to walk and go to the restroom. The money we had saved is almost gone. Our finances are about $6,000 a month. (Mortgage, Bills,Gas, Car Notes,Insurance,Medication’s ,food and etc.)

I am the most selfless and caring person, as most of you know. I would never ask for help if it was not needed. Please consider donating if you are able to, anything will help. We are not sure how long my husband will take to recover and struggle with his new life that COVID 19 has given him. We are very thankful to God for this miracle.

God Bless you all,
La’Nette
