My husband has been living with Type 1 diabetes for many years. For the most part, he has managed his health well, but recently his kidney function began to decline. Things took a turn for the worse, and now he is in the hospital, having started dialysis and facing the urgent need for a kidney transplant. This has been a frightening and overwhelming time for our family, as we try to navigate the medical system and support him through every step of this journey.

As if that wasn’t enough, on my way to visit him in the hospital, I was involved in a car accident. Thankfully, I am okay, but we lost our only means of transportation. Now, on top of the medical crisis, we are struggling to get to appointments and manage daily life without a car. The financial strain is growing, and it’s hard to see a way forward on our own.
