My husband and I are in our 70s, and we’ve always tried to take care of each other. About a year ago, he went into a diabetic coma because we couldn’t afford his medication. His blood sugar was dangerously high, and I only found out he hadn’t been taking his medicine when he was rushed to the hospital. He had been trying to protect me from worry, but the truth came out in the scariest way possible.
Since then, his doctor has tried different treatments. Pills didn’t work, so he was put on two types of insulin, which we could barely afford. Recently, he was prescribed another medication that is very expensive, even after Medicare. We’ve sold what little jewelry we had and let our bills fall behind just to keep him alive. Our electric and water bills are now overdue, and we’re struggling to keep up while making sure he gets the medication he needs.
We’re both on a fixed income, and there are no programs to help with these costs. My husband is a wonderful man who has helped raise generations of children, and I love him dearly. I’m asking for help from anyone who understands what it means to care for a loved one. Your support would help us catch up on our essential bills and afford the medication that keeps him alive. Thank you for reading our story and for any help you can give.
