Help my grandson Ethan recover and to live without pain

Donation protected
My grandson Ethan is just 16 years old, but his world has become incredibly small.

He is living with a severe neurological condition where even everyday sounds—things most of us don’t think twice about cause him intense ear pain, severe headaches, nausea, and dizziness. The effects don’t just pass quickly; they can last for hours afterwards, leaving him exhausted and distressed.

Because of this, Ethan is housebound. He can’t attend school, spend time with friends, or enjoy the simple things that should be part of teenage life. Not because he doesn’t want to but because it physically hurts.

Watching him go through this has been heartbreaking for all of us.

The current NHS treatment pathway follows a standard Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-based approach. While helpful for many, it may not fully reflect the severity or neurological nature of Ethan’s condition.

Wanting to ease his suffering in any way we can, his parents made the difficult decision to seek a private medical assessment. A specialist has since diagnosed Ethan with Hyperacusis. We now know that, for him to have the best chance of recovery, he needs specialist Hyperacusis treatment alongside neurotology care—highly specialised support that is not easily accessible.

As a family, we are doing everything we can—but we can’t do this alone.

Several friends and family members have kindly asked how they can help Ethan access the treatment he so desperately needs. This GoFundMe page has been set up to give people that opportunity.

Due to the complexity of his condition, Ethan will need specialist care. This will include therapy, further consultations, and tailored treatment as he slowly works towards recovery.

The funds raised will help cover:
An initial Hyperacusis treatment programme (£2,600)
A neuro-otology consultation (estimated £300–£500)
Follow-up appointments and further specialist treatment (estimated £3,000)

Every single donation, no matter how small, will help bring Ethan one step closer to recovery and to getting his life back.

If you’re not able to donate, simply sharing Ethan’s story would mean the world to us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any support you can give.

With heartfelt thanks,

Ethan’s Nana, Sue ❤️
