I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for someone who means the world to me.

My grandfather, Julio Alfredo Reyes, is 79 years old and lives in the Philippines, where he’s been the rock and the provider for our entire family for as long as I can remember.

He was my first father figure — a man with a sharp tongue but an even sharper sense of duty and love. Despite his own struggles, he never turned away anyone in need. Whether it was family, friends, or even distant relatives, he would always give even if it meant he had to go without.

Now, he’s the one who needs help.

A couple months ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a PSA level of 84. Recently this June, his results are nearly 300 (normal is under 4), indicating stage IV of cancer. He’s in and out of the hospital, getting admitted atleast twice or thrice a month. The pain has become unbearable. He’s weak, catches infections easily, and is fighting daily just to stay comfortable. He refuses chemotherapy or major treatments, but he’s taking medication to manage the pain and his existing conditions.

The hospital bills alone are nearly $2,000 for just a week of staying, and because insurance in the Philippines covers so little, our family here in the U.S. and the Philippines has been pooling all we can to help. But the cost is overwhelming. We are doing everything we can, but it’s no longer enough.

In the midst of all this, my grandfather has one simple wish: to finally have blepharoplasty surgery; an eyelid procedure he’s needed for over a decade. His eyelids droop so severely that he tapes them up every single day just to see. He’s always put it off because he chose to give to his family instead.

We are trying to raise $10,000 to cover:

• The eye surgery he’s waited so long for ($3,000)

• Ongoing hospital bills and medical expenses ($5,000+)

• Essential care and medications to manage his pain and comfort in his final years

Any amount, big or small will help. Every dollar goes toward easing my grandfather’s suffering and honoring the life of a man who gave everything for others.
