Help My Grandmother Live Her Last Years in Comfort
Donation protected
This is my sweet grandmother, Juana, or "Juani" as most people call her. She is a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She has dedicated her entire life to the care of her family.
At the age of 13, she began working by selling fish on the streets of her beautiful hometown of Santo Tomas, located near the Caribbean coast in Colombia. More than 45 years ago, her life changed completely when a car ran into her path as she was trying to sell her products, and one of her hips was completely destroyed. Juana was never able to walk again, even after undergoing more than 20 surgeries to repair the damage. Her dreams of dancing with her grandchildren at Christmas or walking around her neighborhood every morning were gone.
Today, Juana is 79 years old and bedridden. However, despite her physical situation, she is always smiling and motivating those around her to be positive. Everyone loves her. You can walk around her town and ask anyone about her, and you will universally receive the same response; everyone will tell you how good of a person she is.
Her strong and sweet spirit hides the silent suffering she goes through every day. Juani spends most of her time in a bed that was donated to her several years ago, and which cannot provide her with a good night's sleep. The wheelchair she has is very old and doesn't work. She does not have a refrigerator and her house is in very poor condition. While we cannot give Juani the dream of walking again, we can help her lead a better life. Nowadays, she is content to dream of having a repaired house and the most basic necessities-- a refrigerator, a wheelchair, and a comfy bed.
With these simple things she can spend her last years in comfort, and she and her family hope they will be many! Thank you for your support!
