Hi, my name is Mercedes, and I’m starting this fundraiser on behalf of my Grams, a kind, hardworking senior who just wants to live out her years in peace. Instead, she’s been living in constant stress and fear due to relentless harassment from her landlord.

Grams is 61 years old and still works full-time just to keep up with the rising cost of living. She’s lived in her apartment for seven years. It’s been her home, her comfort but lately, it’s turned into a place of anxiety. For months now, she’s been bombarded with groundless eviction notices and intimidation tactics from her landlord, who is trying to force her out. She’s done absolutely nothing wrong. She pays her rent, respects her neighbors, and has always been a reliable tenant.

She’s had to hire a paralegal to defend her rights and is now preparing for a tribunal hearing through the tenancy board. The legal fees are quickly piling up, and she’s already had to take out a loan to cover the growing costs.

At the same time, my Grams is trying her best to find a safe, affordable apartment where she can finally breathe again. But the housing market right now is brutal especially for someone trying to manage everything alone.
