Update from Brittany’s mom…

Update on Brittany Renee Proudfoot . Its been a painstaking week. Yesterday I took Brittany to see her Dr in Castor , as her pain was excruciating. This is the first time shes seen her family Dr since the Dog Bites. After viewing the xrays and reports he said he's never seen such a break and damage done to an arm from a dog . And was deeply concerned for her state , which at this point was unbearable pain. He felt her meds were not enough now or for the weeks ahead , and the weeks ahead were going to be difficult, before her nerve surgery. He made a sling up for her to wear when walking, but not to wear at rest. He filled her work forms and gave her prescriptions for long acting meds. From Castor we went to Stettler to get her prescription, only to find her insurer would not approve meds until a letter was provided , by the Dr . and returned to them. She has to return to see the Dr. again today , and I will be taking her for another trip to Castor again today .Approval time 10 days approximately. How ridiculous is that ???
I'm telling you this so people understand that there is so much extra frustration and running around all because of a Dog Bite , it effects her mentally, physically and so very much emotionally as it does to everyone close to her .
She puts on a fairly good face in public , but that's moments, minutes . Short amounts of time. She has not had a minute of being without pain. Although she didnt get Health Insurer to pay , she does have what she needs for now . We are hoping this will eleviate some of the pain.
Her next Bone Surgeon appt is Sept 23 and her Plastic Surgeon is October 21.
After that Surgery again on the severed nerve.
The help and donations have been so appreciated. The meals a real lifesaver .
Ryan her husband has returned to work . He's out for 3 back for one week, so shes doing the best that she can . Without Community Support from all of you she would have truly been on her own to try and do it all.
Her frustration is a hard one and she is so independent and she feels so annoyed with.the situation of course . Councelling for her and Choe will be on going as the memories just are rerun over and over. Chloe won't speak much about it , she keeps saying I don't want to talk about it , even to me .
Thank you to all of you who have helped her in ANY way . And still CONTINUE to do so .There are not enough words to express our Gratitude and deep Appreciation.
The Kindness, Support and Concern to her and her family has been amazing . As her Dr said , this isn't going to be a quick healing . The good news is there was no infection.
The Better News is what a difference, you ALL have made . That my friends is what we call a Mixed Blessing.
Thank ❤️ you to ALL of you .

Brittany’s update…

Life at home has been both good and hard.
It's good to be on my own space.
But it's hard to make food, feed my pets, any little task is daunting. Opening up a tin of cat food, cutting an orange for Chlöe, dressing myself, cleaning myself. Little things you don't even think of that we take for granted in everyday life, now an uphill battle. My mental state fluctuates, one min im ok, one minute im reliving every moment, one minute I just cry... I cant help it.
Im not weak, im strong, ill never give up ill keep pushing. But this won't be over tomorrow, next week or even next month. Im going to need help for a long time and I'm scared, im scared because im So independent and I don't want to burden people.

Upcoming dates September 23-xray and stitches out and recast my arm

Oct 21-surgery for nerves. How intense? Will not know until we go in. More scars, more pain, more recovery time :-(

Thank you again for everyone who has dropped off care packages, food, and made donations, it truly means so much to me. ♡♡

The money will be used for bills, gas to appointments for the people taking me, groceries ect. Thank you all again so much ♡ I'm stronger because I have you amazing people at my side

Clarification!!

Clarification and UPDATE on Brittany Renee Proudfoot .

There seems to be some confusion on Brittanys injuries that I want to clarify, I have been told 3 times this morning by different people that they thought Brittanys broken arm , and severed nerves were from a fall.
No....it was Dog Bites that caused the injuries after the dog attacked her and she lost her footing. She instinctively put up her prominent right arm for protection for both her and her dog. Thats when the dog went for the arm.
Chloe her 10 year old and her friend was with Brittany at the time.
Thank goodness they were not physically injured.
But traumatized of course.
Thank you

My name is Gina and I am fundraising for one of my favourite people in the world. She has been one of my favourite people for years but my admiration for her grew even higher on September 2nd when she literally risked her life to save her Corgi Nova (my grand puppy). She did everything right. Her dogs were on leashes, she was out on the road in small town Botha, when a dog came out of its yard and attacked. It was going straight for Nova when Brittany put herself in between. The dog bit down and shook her, breaking her arm and tearing her skin. Luckily, people heard her screams and they came to help. They got the dog off her and got her to the Stettler hospital. She was then rushed to the Red Deer hospital, where they did a 4.5 hour surgery to put plates in and hopefully clean out the wound so it didn’t get infected. She will be in the hospital for 5 days before they are ready to do the second surgery and hopefully fix some of the nerve damage.
This is in Canada. She will not have to pay for her hospital stay and she has some short term disability which will kick in about 2 weeks after the accident, but these are just the tip of the iceberg. Her husband Ryan, had to stay home from this work rotation to make sure the kids were okay. There will be massive therapy bills needed for all the kids but especially Chloe. Not only did she see this as it happened, she is a sensitive young lady who loves all animals and was friends with the dog who attacked. Brittany also is the main person who takes care of the house, cooks, manages the kids (they have 3), and the animals (I lost count of how many animals they have). Brittany’s mom Debbie, has also missed work so that she can be at her bedside.
Anyone who knows Brittany, knows that she is always willing to help. She is genuine and sweet and puts everyone’s needs ahead of her own. This time, she needs us. The owner of the dog doesn’t have insurance so there is no help coming from that direction.
Please help me get this wonderful woman back on her feet.

UPDATE 1 from mom Debbie…

UPDATE ON Brittany Renee Proudfoot
The first Surgeon, Put the plate pins and screws in Brittanys arm , The Plastic Surgeon said , they were REALLY bad breaks , but the Surgeon did an Incredible job of the Surgery. But unfortunately that's not the biggest concern at this point. Aside from worrying about infection , there is nerve damage. One nerve especially is a concern. Its the Ulna nerve, which runs from the elbow and helps control the fingers movements. That's more worrisome. So they are calling in a Third Surgeon, Top notch , to get his opinion on how they should deal with it . Hoping all agree and are on board the same way. Do they operate now ? Or wait ??
That is the question.
They told her if it goes well it will be 6 to 8 months healing time for the bones and uncertainty about the outcome at this point of the nerves.
This Surgeon is trying to come tonight hopefully, so we may have that answer as to when.
Brittany and her family , as well as myself are humbled and so very Grateful and Appreciative for all the Love , Support, Kindness, Prayers and Goodwill from the Community. The gifts of meals are wonderful as cooking will be a challenge, the etransfers and the people who donated to the Go Fund me page set up by our friend Gina Carritt Whittemore , who has given so very much herself.
Our hearts are full , and that's a wonderful feeling knowing people care.
So from our hearts to yours , Thank you so very much ❤️
