My name is Ashley. and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help on behalf of my best friend Pearl, who has been enduring unimaginable hardship for well over a year.

In December 2023, she developed severe cysts that left her in pain and resulted in her having difficulties walking. She had undergone surgery to rectify this, and it seems to have made matters worse. This whole situation has completely changed her life, in ways she could have never imagined. She’s a bus driver by trade — someone who proudly served her community every day — but due to her condition, she’s been unable to return to work. Despite her efforts to find alternative duties within her company and working closely with her doctor, she’s received little to no support. Her fight to stay afloat has been long and exhausting.

Just when things couldn’t get worse, tragedy struck again.

On July 5, 2025, while attending Afrofest in Toronto, she was caught in a terrifying stampede and was trampled over. The incident fractured her knee and made her already fragile condition even worse. Now, she faces even greater physical and emotional pain.

She’s falling behind on rent, drowning in bills, and being buried in debt. She has no substantial income and no timeline for when she’ll be able to walk or work again. She’s exhausted every resource, but still refuses to give up.
