My friend Seth followed his dreams when he made the leap to California, where he planted roots and started building the adventurous life he always dreamed of - skiing, taking photos, off-roading in his beloved vintage 4Runner, camping off-grid, and spending as much time outside as possible.

I met Seth when I was brand new to Portland, and right away I knew he was special. He’s one of the kindest, most supportive friends I’ve ever had: the kind of person you can call any time of day and he’ll find a way to show up for you. He’s been my ski buddy for years, spending countless hours encouraging me, cheering me on, and making me a better skier season after season. My kids idolize him, my friends often become his friend - he is kind, safe and supportive. He is a good human.

On August 11th, I got a message I’ll never forget:
“I have been in a horrible car accident. Heading into surgery. Non life threatening. Will text when I can.”

My heart sank. My buddy was across the country, and could have died. Thankfully, after surgery, the doctors were able to save his foot. He has many breaks to heal, but the good news is- he’s still here, and he still has his foot. That’s something to celebrate.

But here’s the hard part: Seth is a professional ski instructor, and right now, he can’t use his foot at all. His medical bills are stacking up, and rent is coming due. While he focuses on healing, he needs us, his friends, his community, HIS cheerleaders to step up the way he’s always stepped up for us.
