I am a member of the Glasgow community living in the East End and have recently befriended a local asylum seeker through advocating for him in an evictions process. He has been living in Glasgow for 8 years now, supporting local football and becoming invested in his community. He is generous and kind and thinks of others, and simply wants to give to his community and in turn have the support he needs. Unfortunately, the home office have failed him time and time again, rejecting his asylum claims based on mistranslations and lack of understanding from an interpreter who spoke a different dialect to him. He experienced torture in the country he came to the UK from, and since coming here has lost contact with his family. He experiences mental health problems and this in turn affects his physical health. He only receives a very small amount of money from the home office to survive - £30-50 per week. This is barely enough to survive on, and he has to walk long distances to get anywhere as he lives in home office accommodation far out of the centre. Thanks to generous donations over the past few months we have been able to get him a 4 weekly bus pass (twice!) and he's told me that he has been able to travel and spend time out of the house and that this has been amazing for his mental health. This is something I would love to consistently provide him with, but it would be amazing to take it even further than this! He is in need of new clothes, shoes, medical care, food, and just the freedom and flexibility that he deserves as the state delays and denies him these rights. Any donations will be greatly appreciated, and especially we're looking for anybody who can donate on a regular monthly basis! This is what will get his needs met long term!
