I have been tremendously fortunate to get to work with wonderful colleagues in Ghana over the past many years. They are people I admire for their skill, compassion, generosity, and humility, and I consider them to be dear friends.

One of those friends is Jerome Yevugah, an ophthalmic nurse who started Eye to Eye Clinic Ltd. in Aflao, Ghana, near the border with Togo. Together with his team, he provides care to paying patients who are members of the community, and on weekends, they provide care to patients who otherwise would not have access to eye care because they live in poverty, in remote areas, or both. This is a sustainable model—local providers caring for local patients—using scarce human and other resources to give back.

Last spring, I got to visit Jerome and his team and see for myself the incredible work that they are doing. I was really moved and I asked if there was anything that I could do to support their mission. He said that they were in need of an OCT (optical coherence tomography) machine. An OCT is used to diagnose and manage glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, all of which are highly prevalent in the communities they work with.

I am now asking my friends if they will please consider supporting Jerome and his team's work by donating to help purchase a refurbished OCT for his clinic. I hope that you will consider donating—any amount would be very much appreciated.
