Help Garfield Get Life-Saving Cancer Treatment Abroad
Donation protected
I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend and brother in life, Garfield Dixon — a man I’ve known for over 20 years. I had the honour of standing beside him as his best man, and today, I’m standing beside him again — in the fight of his life.
Just one month after burying his beloved mother, Garfield was diagnosed with the exact same rare and aggressive cancer that took her life — Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL). Tragically, this disease also took his older brother eight years ago. Now, it’s trying to take him too.
But Garfield is not giving up! He’s choosing to fight! Since his diagnosis, he’s gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy, including CHOP, GDP and ICE. These have slowed the disease in some areas but haven’t brought the remission needed for a stem cell transplant — the only possible cure. That’s why Garfield’s doctors are now exploring urgent treatment options not available in Canada, including:
- A clinical trial in Ohio using advanced immune cell therapy; and
- Approved therapies in Japan (like Mogamulizumab and Lenalidomide) that are not yet accessible in Canada.
These are not experimental “last resorts” — they are real, medically sound treatments with documented success in ATLL patients. But, accessing them comes with significant out-of-pocket costs.
This fundraiser will help cover:
- Medical consultations with specialists
- Additional imaging and pretreatment procedures
- The cancer treatment
- Specialist medications
- Follow-up care and treatment coordination
- Travel and accommodations for treatment
A little bit about Garfield:
Garfield’s journey started in Jamaica, where he was born and raised in a family rooted in faith, humility, and love. That foundation is still with him as he navigates this painful road with courage and grace.
And through it all, his greatest reason to keep fighting is his 4-year-old daughter — a sweet little girl whose million-dollar smile reminds him every day why he’s still here and his family. He wants the chance to watch her grow up, hold her hand through life, and never let cancer steal one more moment from their story.
So I’m asking you — as his friend on behalf of his family and as someone who’s watched him give so much to others — to help us give Garfield a chance to live. If you can donate, share, or simply pray, please know it means the world to Garfield and his family.
He believes in miracles. I do too. And I believe that with your support, Garfield can beat this!
Thank you for standing with him.
