Help My Friend Finish His Final Year of Engineering

I’ve created this fundraiser for my friend Abshir Said, a talented Somali student studying Mechanical Engineering, who is now facing the heartbreaking possibility of dropping out just one year before graduation as he cannot re enroll for his final year due to money.He cannot do jobs as you guys know in final year he have to focus on studies and by obtaining good marks he wants to be a engineer.

Even last couple weeks he is living in our rooms as he don't have enough money to pay his own rent.

What Happened

Few months ago, tragically lost his father — his only financial sponsor. His father had been fully funding his tuition and living costs in the UK, believing deeply in the power of education and his son's future. With his sudden passing, Abshir, now has no way to fund his final year. As an international student, he has no access to UK student loans or public financial aid. Even the university didn't provided any hardship financial stating that its only for EU and UK students.

He has already completed two years of his Mechanical Engineering degree with great success and resilience. But without urgent support, he will be forced to pause or abandon his education.

Fundraising Goal

We are trying to raise £35,000, which covers:

£23,000 – Final year tuition

£12,000 – Living expenses (rent, food, transport, visa/legal fees, materials)

100% of your donation will go directly toward helping him enroll in his final year and complete his degree.

Abshir, is not just a student — he’s a dreamer with a mission. He wants to return to Somalia as a qualified engineer and help rebuild infrastructure, support communities, and serve the next generation.

This is more than a degree. It’s the final step in a journey his late father believed in and sacrificed for.
