Michael Gold is a remarkable and kind-hearted human being who constantly goes out of their way to comfort others. They are an extremely talented musician, performer, designer, and friend. They create/perform music under the alias GOJII and have recently released their debut album for free, HYPERSYMMETRY.
Unfortunately for them, their current living situation is contradictory to who they are as a person.
Michael is living in an apartment with two abusive roommates who put them in threatening situations almost daily. These roomates have theatened and attemped physical abuse on several occasions. They also contantly mock and patronize Michael for things like their gender, interests, and musical passion. This is mental abuse and forces dysphoria on them. They have no other family to live with in the area, and are contantly told to "suck it up" and "deal with it" when describing situations of real abuse on the physical and psychological level.
Michael works as a prep cook at a local restaraunt, where they constantly work hard, breaking their back for long shifts earning Florida minimum wage ( ~ $9 hourly.) As somebody who is openly autistic and genderqueer, they suffer consistent mental abuse at work as well as at home. They are usually working every weekend, where their job is at it's highest demand.
The money that they do make from this job is primarily put into living expenses, leaving Michael skipping meals normally every day. Even without health insurance, they have lost 5 pounds since September simply because they can't afford to eat. They also find their roommates constantly taking advantage of them, always seeming to be "short" on money. These abusive roomates have even threaten to charge them $10 a day if they fail to complete a "chores list" which consists mainly of picking up after said roommates.
It would be a tough situation for Michael to quit their current job, considering the 9.6% unemployment rate in their current city of Fort Pierce. Fort Pierce is an area frequently described as dangerous, with a crime index in the worst 10% of Florida's cities and an average household income of $27,719. Michael does not feel safe going anywhere besides work, and even had the first physical copy of their album, Hypersymetry, stolen from them in the mail.
It is extremely crucial that Michael leaves this city immediately. The extreme depression and anxiety that their living situation puts them in fills me with a deep sadness and sympathy. Michael is in danger every day, where their mental and physical health are constantly at risk in every aspect of their life.
Michael is bound by a contract to pay a lease and live in Fort Pierce for nine more months. They have a friend who will take them in in the nearby city of Lake Worth, away from the abuse and poverty that they are facing right now. With a monthy lease of $284, they need is $2,556 USD to pay off the remaining lease. (284 x 9 = ~2,556)
Being subject to this hardship is the last thing that a person like Michael needs. You can help pull this amazing and kindhearted artist out of this distressing situation and start making their life better today.
"It is my heart's desire to make enough money to pay the rest of my portion of the rent and break off the lease. I need a positive change in my life. I already have the ideal location, all I need to do is try to break free of the lease."
